Column chart

In Microsoft Excel's vocabulary, a column chart is a vertical bar chart — bars rise from a baseline at the bottom. Most other software treats "column" and "bar" as orientations of the same chart. Use column / vertical when the x-axis is time or has a natural order; use bar / horizontal when category labels are long or the data is ranked.
